Saturnalia

Saturnalia

For centuries, the Roman Festival of Saturn involved gift giving, excessive drinking and promiscuity. Beginning every December 17th, it was a wild affair of unrestrained license and merriment for all classes, extending even to the slaves.

“During My week the serious is barred; no business allowed. Drinking, noise and games and dice, appointing of kings and feasting of slaves, singing naked, clapping of frenzied hands… such are …the functions over which I preside.”
- Works of Lucian, Vol. IV: Saturnalia

This Friday we present a mashup of titans Steamboat Fattie and DJ K-Tel just for you modern pagans.

Steamboat Fattie is one guy who’s definitely got more bounce to the ounce. Mark’s been playing out for well over a decade that i know of. from his days hosting dance parties at his glorified downtown-eastside photo studio flophouse (if you remember – you weren’t there) to his years long residencies at Subeez and Falconetti’s and on up highway 99 to co-produce Funkoree for some of the luckiest people in BC – he is hands down one of the finest dance floor deejays Vancouver’s shaken it’s booty to. Ever. Look forward to a very deep and groovy, all-vinyl set where ravers & rockers collide in a Funk Sandwich!

DJ K-Tel seems to trade hats like a multitasking Bartholomew Cubbins on go-pills. From audio to visual, analog to digital and on to crazy trippy fusions of all of them at once…

His A/V set at Shambhala was amazing!
“Now there is peace on earth thanks to the aliens.”

K-Tel’s main website is chock full of mixes for you to check out. One you gotta hear has a 100 minutes of just soul music, sung solely by Women and played only on 45 records…

I mean, how many 45′s does he have? Apparently a lot of them and he’s gonna play some of his favourites for you lucky people this Friday.
